WHAT IS ELDER ABUSE?

Elder abuse is the term referring to any knowing, intentional or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm or a serious risk of harm to a vulnerable adult.

There are several different types of abuse of the elderly: physical, psychological, sexual, financial and neglect. Anyone who comes in contact with an older adult has a responsibility to be aware of the signs of abuse and report the abuse to the proper authorities.
